Hello

My name is Pam Schoessow, the quilter, pattern designer, and writer behind Stash Stitcher Quilts.  I’ve always believed that fabric is meant to be used, not tucked away.

That’s why my patterns and blog focus on turning your fabric stash into quilts that are both beautiful and practical — projects you’ll love to make and love to use.

My designs blend vintage charm with a modern twist, often inspired by antique quilts and timeless blocks. Whether you’re a confident beginner or a seasoned stitcher, I want to help you feel excited about sewing, spark new ideas, and give you the confidence to cut into that fabric you’ve been saving for “someday.”

My Journey

I started sewing very early as my mother was a professional seamstress who worked from home.  Let's just say I spent a lot of time in fabric stores as a child.  I was fascinated by fabric and I wanted to be just like my mom.    As a preschooler, I was constantly drawn to her Industrial Bernina sewing machine (that I wasn't supposed to touch) .  She always knew when I had played with it whenever she tried to sew and all the threads were jammed up!  But she didn't discourage me  and by the time I was in Kindergarten, Mom was helping me sew seams for clothing.  It was a great day when I received my own sewing machine, a Singer Featherweight, for my 10th birthday.   I sewed many of my own clothes on that little machine for years and still use it at quilt retreats today.

Jumping ahead, I made my first quilt back in the early 1980s just to decorate my home.  "Country" was in back then, and I figured I needed a quilt to drape over my couch.   But my quilting journey didn't really take off until 2007,  when I added a  APQS long-arm quilting machine to my creative toolkit.  For many years I had a business and quilted hundreds of quilts for my customers.   Since I never purchased a computer, I got very good at hand guided free motion quilting.  And I even earned several awards for my custom quilting.

But at the heart of it all, my true passion lies in designing and creating.  I have so many ideas!  I started designing quilt patterns after learning Adobe Illustrator in 2023.  And am pleased that several of my quilts have been featured in American Patchwork & Quilting magazine in the last couple of years.

Now I am on a journey to design patterns specifically to use pre-cuts and fabrics from your stash.  I don't know about you, but when you have been quilting as long as I have, I've accumulated quite a bit of fabric and UFOs too many to count!  Are you in the same boat?  Join me as I try to de-stash my stash!  I also love to make quilts for charity, so I will be blogging about that too.
